My name is Val Cornwell.I am a professional dog trainer. I live in Southern California with my husband of 33 years, Mike, my beautiful 4 yr old Rottweiler Bella and 4 cats. I have been training dogs in a professional capacity since 2000. I have trained many dogs over the years and have always been facinated by how willing and eager most dogs are to please us. After going to the shelter one day to search for my missing cat, I watched a gentleman surrender his beautiful Black Labrador to the shelter because he was "wild and crazy." I decided that I had the ability to prevent this from happening. I could teach people to train their dogs and make them well mannered pets. I attended Animal Behavior College and became a Certified Dog Obedience Instructor. I taught Group obedience classes through Petco for a number of years and have taught numerous clients in the privacy of their homes. I attend yearly dog training seminars to continue to learn new training techniques. I am a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers also. This is a wonderful resource to obtain input on various training issues. I am also certified by the AKC (American Kennel Club) as an Evaluator for the Canine Good Citizen program. Dogs earning their CGC are certified as well-mannered by the AKC. This is the only program sponsored by AKC that is open to all dogs, mixed or purebred.
Taking a dog that has not had any training and watching him develop into a well mannered pet is so rewarding. Watching my clients develop a more rewarding relationship with their dogs is why I became a dog trainer.
